DESCRIPTION:This course is a self-paced\, four-module overview of the construction industry\, its participants\, and project processes. Students will explore construction types\, project phases\, safety practices\, construction documents\, and the fundamentals of estimating\, scheduling\, project management\, and project closeout.LEARNING OBJECTIVES:Understand and use standard construction terminologyIdentify different types of constructionDevelop an awareness of construction safety regulations and the role of OSHABecome familiar with building codes\, zoning\, and inspection.Identify and ascertain information about the careers in constructionIdentify the primary professions engaged in construction and their roles in the construction processesDevelop an understanding of the materials and processes used in constructionExplain and discuss the various types of contract documentsUnderstand basic concepts of estimating\, project management and schedulingSEMINAR ORGANIZATION & GRADING: Organized into 4 learning modules. Plan to study once per week. In each module there is a quiz (10 points). Halfway through the seminar there is a written assignment (15 points). At the end of the seminar there is a practicum (20 points). Course modules will be released upon the completion of the quiz.
